living under rocks?

Yesterday I stopped by my rental office to drop off some outgoing mail, and the lady in there was like, "hows it goin today!?". I responded, "Oh pretty good, I got information about my economic stimulus in the mail! I can't wait for it!". (I got a little letter in the mail saying how much i'm getting and when the check will come)
She looked at me like I was insane, she obviously had no clue what I was talking about regarding the $300-$600 check pretty much everyone in America is getting.

This led me to think about something, if it were EVER necessary for one piece of news or information to make it to EVERY single person in America, how on earth would that be done? Now, I can't think of an example of this, but it really couldn't be too hard. We already have rules and laws based in/on government and morality, but I'm talking about a piece of news... that is pertinent and important....I don't think its possible!

I also started to think about something else, which are the unspoken and a lot of times unmentioned things you are supposed to do as a citizen/adult. I don't mean "don't murder people", duh, I'm talking about things that you are expected to do, a lot of times by law, that there really aren't posted or obvious rules about. Like paying taxes, its just assumed that if you have a job, you're going to pay them - you're going to know where to go, who to talk to, what to do - to get things like that accomplished. Another thing, you move out on your own - you need a doctor or dentist...can you just go to any of them? A lot of times I don't think you can.."Oh, we're not accepting new patients!" Or, if you live in a house, how do you know what day garbage comes on? Or what you can or cannot expect sanitary engineers/technicians to haul away for you? Don't pour motor oil down the drain, don't put things in the dryer you want to not shrink, don't open a computer without grounding yourself, the list goes on. A lot of things like this and things similar happen all the time, and there is no real clarity.

I guess that is life and those are some of the challenges, which are miniscule in comparison to actual things needing worry and concern.
