wow! so it's been a little over 10 years since I have updated this blog. I found it today while internetting and figured - "hey, what if I do that again?". so after modernizing my profile and interests, here we go!
today I found an interesting concept and vibrant site over at https://qrates.com/. it is a crowd funding site for artists to get their music produced on vinyl. makes a lot of sense, get pre-order commitments before going into production. with something like a 20%-40% pre-sale of your pressing, you can gauge how many to press, and minimize risk.
the favorite project I stumbled upon, was project 17207 - https://qrates.com/projects/17207- 'Saturn Audio System Demonstration Cassette' by wilson arcade. a total vaporwave gem!
the description reads: one day, wilson arcade was looking in the glove box of his 1997 saturn
sw2. what was this all the way in the back? a cassette? a beautiful red
and black cassette with the saturn logo? yes. it was what he thought it
was. the rumored saturn audio system demonstration cassette was real!
he
popped the tape into the tape player and turned up the volume. the tape
hissed as it came to life. shaking, he removed the cassette from the
player. this must be shared with the masses, wilson thought. with that,
he ran inside to recover all of the audio from the tape.
wilson
arcade presents this cassette in its entirety. learn first-hand why
saturn is
a different kind of company /// a different kind of car.
you'll be driving off the lot, putting down your
automatic windows and blasting this tape on your
cassette+equalizer (optional add-on) the unexpected quality will bring tears to your eyes, tears that remind you of how empty your
life is. get out your keyless entry and drive with those
highway lights overhead. look beside you. someone in your
passenger seat? maybe your life isn't so empty after all. enjoy the
nightlyfe. and, most of all, thank you for choosing saturn
what you find is wilson arcade did not simply rip the audio from the cassette to point and laugh as a joke, but also left his imprint on the audio in the most pleasing way possible - slightly slowed down. it makes for a captivating, almost haunting rendition of Saturn Car owner pride, and American Confidence that can only come from the late 1990's.
favorite track: the Aside track 6 'Keyless Entry' - the soaring guitar and vocal refrain of "stay safe tonight" that only Saturn can deliver.
Enjoy!
